Bones and Dental Chews for Dogs

Bones and Dental Chews ~ Get the full story here

Overall dental condition and mouth biome can be improved by offering raw bones. Chewing on them can help clean the teeth and improve dental health. We recommend that you only purchase fresh raw bones (uncooked and untreated) from the refrigeration/freezer section of a pet store or from a grocer/butcher.

When introducing raw bones, do it slowly. Offer it for a few minutes at a time, each time, and slowly increase the time as long as your pet tolerates it. Offer for 5-10 minutes a day for the first few days to limit marrow and fat consumption.  After a few days the bone can be left out for your dog to chew at will.  Marrow in the bone does not need to be refrigerated after the meat/fat on the outside has been eaten off. You may also offer kneecaps or backstrap.

Avoid green or starch based dental chews. Bully sticks, rawhides (of any kind), dental chews (of any kind), nylabones and/or antlers are NOT recommended. Rawhides or bully sticks, are chemically processed and unhealthy for your pet. Never offer cooked bones, as they can splinter and create sharp points that are a health hazard in the GI tract.
